Why We Read The Bible

The Word of God is essential for Christian living. It is written truth for our faith. It is illuminated by the Holy Spirit so that we can do good works for the glory of God.

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)

We read the Bible to have our minds be ready for action, to give a defense or explanation for our hope in Christ Jesus (1 Peter 3:15).

My encouragement to you is to read a little every day. Kinda little running. The first few days or weeks it might be a struggle, but keep going. I encourage you to find a running partner who will read with you.

As you strengthen your reading habit, increase the time you send. Little by little. Start with 7 minutes, and before you know it you’ll be at an hour.

To His Glory,

Pastor Josh

A study from 1 John 1

For most of us time is relative to our own lives. We cannot necessarily pinpoint the moment time had real meaning but somewhere around 4 or 5, we realized time mattered. Now at this young age, all that mattered was meal time, bed time and the time of our favorite show.

However, as we got older time become more relevant. Our morning, afternoon and evening routines were governed by time. Some of us adapted quickly while others not so much.

But can you imagine being above time?

Having neither beginning or end, having actual control over it. Now we might think our parents governed us with meal time and bed time but they were simply managing our time, not making it.

God as we see in 1 John 1:1-5 has been before time, this given him the ability to offer eternal life. Life begins at conception and ends mostly with the last breath. But the soul lives forever. Only God has the ability to make something that last forever.

He gave us the Word of Life, Jesus Christ, so that in him we could have life. An abundant life on earth full of love and joy, and eternal life where there would no long be sin, suffering or death.

This life comes through fellowship with Christ. A brotherhood, if you will, where Christ is the older brother who was sent to rescue the younger brother.

There is an association between time, life and brotherhood. For God is the source of time, life and family. He alone controls. So it is in him we trust.

To His Glory!

The Beatitudes and Being Light

Matthew 5:1-16

  1. What does this passage tell me about God (Father, Son or Holy Spirit)? How does this reveal his character, attributes, desires, or plan?
  2. What does this passage tell me about human nature? How might human nature differ from God’s nature?
  3. What does this passage reveal about me? How do I need to make internal changes in my Christian life?
  4. What does this passage reveal about others and how am I supposed to live differently in the world?

thinking rightly

This site comes from a desire for Christians to think in the right ways about God. I have been a pastor for several years and raised in the church. I have meet with many individuals and couples to help them through marriage crisis, death, illness, and suffering. Many face real challenges. Some challenges are self-inflected, others challenges are inflected by others.

Either way, I ask them about God and faith system. Faith system you ask? Because for those raised in the church know the right christianese answers. However, for many when I ask about a faith system, I get all sorts of answer. From I know and believe in Jesus Christ to I talk to the Man upstairs.

What I have come to understand is that many to do not have a solid foundation in their faith. They have many misconceptions about God. Most have come from a lack of Biblical knowledge, meaning they have not read their Bibles in parts or in whole. I will agree that there are many parts of the Bible that are complicated, and let’s be honest reading genealogies is not that exciting.

My hope from my writings, teachings and preachings will help all of us Think Rightly about God.
